Cleary’s fighters excel

Leamington Editorial 13th Dec, 2018   0

LEAMINGTON boxers put on some fantastic displays at the Cleary’s Gym home show held at Trident College.

Joshua Finch was involved in the fight of the night in the ten-bout show which featured five Cleary’s stars.

He took on fellow Midlands champion Joshua Jones (Benson’s Boxing Academy) and both looked the part in their bout.

Using his height and range, Finch dominated each round and at the start of the third he dropped Jones with a short, right upper.

Finch eventually won by a unanimous decision.

Aman Kumar is now unbeaten in his last four contests after overcoming Joel Severn (Arnold School of Boxing) following a second round stoppage.

Kumar had Severn in trouble from the off with his jolting jab and the writing was on the wall for the latter after a standing count at the end of the first round.

As the second round started it was clear Kumar was too strong and the referee called an abrupt end to the fight.

Jacob Finch managed to claim a unanimous decision victory over Aaron Hubery (Shildon ABC), despite the fight being called to halt at the end of the second round after Finch picked up a cut above his right eye following an accidental clash of heads.

There was also a unanimous win for Daniel Quartermaine over Thomas Upsall (Boston ABC) but there was hard luck for Ricky Atwell who lost on points to Tafari Rouse (Benson’s Boxing Academy).
