SOUTHAM’s Corinne Moss began the season with a convincing victory at the Southam sprint distance triathlon on Sunday.

Moss, who is from Bishop’s Itchington and is sponsored by The Cycle Studio in Stratford and Shires Physio in Warwick, produced excellent times in the swim, cycle ride and run.

The 41-year-old completed the 400m swim, 20km ride and 5km run in an impressive time of one hour, six minutes and one second, which was almost two-and-a-half minutes faster than her closest female rival Clarie Walker from Rugby Triathlon Club.

She said: “This was the first real test of my fitness and the new bike from the Cycle Studio, so it was a real confidence booster to take the win.”

Sunday’s success follows her recent qualification for the Duathlon World Championships at the Dambuster Duathlon at Rutland Water.

“With running being my weakest discipline, I’d never expected to do so well in duathlon because it includes two runs, of 10km and 5km, as well as the 40km bike leg,” Corinne added.

“I’ve worked hard on my running over the winter though and the effort is really paying off.”

Corinne trains over 12 hours each week under the guidance of coach David Knight.  She will be representing Great Britain in the European Triathlon Championships in Lisbon Portugal later this year.
