BACK-to-back defeats against Cardiff Devils leaves Blaze rooted firmly at the foot of the Elite League table.

Chuck Weber’s side were left frustrated on Saturday evening as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to rivals Cardiff Devils at the Skydome.

The visitors took the lead through Leigh Salters before Boris Valabik tied the game up with his first goal for the club.

But Salter scored again and Blaze failed to find an equaliser despite out-shooting their openents 42-49.

The following evening Weber’s side went down 4-1 to the same side in Cardiff.

Brett Robinson celebrated his 800th game in all EIHL competitions by scoring the opener but it all went downhill from there.

Tomas Kurka tied the game up before Zach Hervato nudged Devils in front with just one second of the first period remaining.

Blaze defenceman Boris Valabik was ejected on a 5+game misconduct for fighting and a match penalty for abuse of official.

Blaze then conceded again late in the period as Leigh Salters made it 3-1 with Kurka grabbing an empty-net goal with 76 seconds to go.

Coach Chuck Weber said: “We lost too many momentum plays and the two goals we conceded at the end of the periods cost us.

“We did not create enough or sustain enough offence to deserve more. We seemed to have forgotten why we were successful against them in our building.

“We were not physical enough, we were not strong enough and we did not win enough races to pucks. If you play the right way you will have some success.

“It has been an inconsistent weekend but we have seven games between now and the new year and we need to start putting some wins together.”
