A TEAM of youngsters from Crackley Hall school in Kenilworth are celebrating after winning the Under-9s Independent Schools’ Association’s Midlands Championships

Crackley Hall’s Under-9s side beat off some stiff competition from a total of 12 teams to be crowned winners of the competition, which was held at Stafford Grammar on March 10.

It was the first year that Crackley Hall had entered at side into the under-9 age category and accompanying teacher Julia Roberts described the level of play shown by the group as ‘remarkable’.

She said: “They have such energy and commitment as well as organisation and competitiveness.

“With each game lasting 16 minutes their stamina was tested to the hilt but this didn’t put them off.”

A convincing 4-1 victory over Salterford House set up a tense and nail biting final between Crackley Hall and Mylnhurst, who had won the tournament for the past three years.

But Crackley Hall were undeterred and dug deep, using centre Molly McGrory as a pivotal force to turn the ball around.

And shooters Marisa Lucas and Emily Hennegan continued their precision by scoring two hard fought goals which helped their side to a 2-1 win and the Midlands crown.

The team also comprised of Erica Zanyi, Lara Convey, Julia Loftus, Abigail Gillard and Emily Gonzalez.

Teacher Roberts added: “The girls thoroughly deserved the title.

“They’ve practised hard and showed a fighting spirit right up until the final whistle blew. We are thrilled that they have brought the trophy home.”
