JONATHAN Wigley hit an unbeaten century as Leamington CC cruised to a 65-run victory against Milford Hall.

Wigley hit 17 boundaries in a 154-ball knock with the Milford Hall attack unable to remove the Leamington captain from the crease at Main Road.

Leamington closed on 211-9 and bowled Milford out for 146 in reply as Jason Jakeman, Archie Walker and Shailan Srikanthan all took three wickets apiece.

The result means Leamington sit sixth in the Birmingham and District League Premier Division Two table.

Leamington won the toss and elected to bat only to lose opener Harrison Smith (1) cheaply in the fourth over.

However, Wigley (121 not out) held the innings together and had support at the crease from Jacob Sargeant (24) and James Hawkins (15).

Despite slipping to 128-7, Wigley guided Leamington beyond the 200-run mark despite the best efforts of Yohan Liyanage (4-38).

Milford struggled with the bat in reply as the home side slumped to 74-6 at the end of the 23rd over.

None of Milford’s first six batters reached the 20-run mark as Walker (3-32) and also Srikanthan (3-36) did the damage with the ball.

A solid seventh-wicket partnership between Will Davis (30) and Harry Trubshaw (20) boosted the home side’s total.

However, Jakeman (3-17) broke up the partnership and accounted for Milford’s tail order as Leamington bowled the hosts out in 42.2 overs to claim a 65-run success.

Leamington are next in action against Stourbridge on Saturday, July 11 with play to begin at 12pm(midday) at Arlington Avenue.
