RUGBY UNION: THE QUEEN’s Head pub in Cubbington has been a watering hole and meeting place for friends since Victorian times.

For the past 30 plus years a group of up to a dozen Old Leamingtonian RFC members have met there on Thursday evening every week to swap views and indulge in an animated discussion on the issues of the day.

Current Landlord Keith Poulter, and long time Cubbington resident Den Fisher thought that this association of the Queen’s Head with one of Leamington’s foremost Sporting outfits should be recognised with a permanent symbol of the tradition.

They thereby commissioned an Old Leamingtonians rugby shirt emblazoned with the Queen of Clubs to be framed and hung on the wall in the corner occupied by the Thursday night crowd.

The OL group presented Keith with the shirt at an informal ceremony on Thursday April 6.

Landlord Keith said: “In the four years that I have been the landlord at The Queen’s Head it has been a pleasure to serve the OLs on their weekly visit to the pub.

“They bring with them humour and wonderful camaraderie and it is fitting that their corner is now decorated with recognition of their club.”
