Cup progress for Leamington who come from behind twice to beat Bedworth

FOOTBALL: LEAMINGTON booked their place in the next round of the Birmingham Senior Cup after twice coming from behind to beat Bedworth on Tuesday evening.

Leamington should have gone ahead with 12 minutes gone when Courtney Baker-Richardson picked out Nathan Olukanmi inside the area but he was unable to get his shot on target.

Instead it was the home side who got their noses in front on 26 minutes against the run of play when a free kick allowed Justin Mardsen to beat Tony Breedon.

On the half-hour mark the visitors got themselves back on level terms when Olukanmi beat two defenders before firing in a cross for Ryan Rowe to score the equaliser and he was denied a penalty before the break as both teams went in level at half-time.

Just three minutes into the second half Bedworth re-took the lead when a fortunate ricochet fell to Kieron Brehon who shot easily past from eight yards out.

With 20 minutes remaining the Brakes equalised for the second time in the match when Mace scored with a bullet header from a corner which went in off the bar.

On 78 minutes the visitors went in front for the first time largely thanks to a great break from Olukanmi who put in another fantastic cross to claim his second assist as Baker-Richardson fired home Leamington’s third.

Nathan Cadby thought he had forced penalties but he shot at Breeden late on and in the final minute Oluksnmi was denied the goal he deserved as his effort was superbly saved Nicholas Draper.
