Cup progress for Old Leamingtonian youngsters

RUGBY UNION: OLD Leamingtonians’ Under-18s returned to league action on Saturday and came away from Banbury with a deserved 17-10 win.

The early exchanges saw Banbury have most of the possession but OLs defence held firm. In fact the visitors scored first when good forward play allowed the ball to be spun wide, with Max Ward scoring and Alex Witchell added the conversion.

OLs scored again in similar fashion, this time through Callum Semple which forced Banbury into action and after good recycling by their pack, the home side scored to leave OLs seven points in front at half time.

Banbury started the second half well and they were aided by some missed tackles from OLs. However, OLs scored next when George Parker picked up from the base of a scrum, bounced off two tacklers to score in the corner.

The game then lost structure as OLs lost momentum through a number of injuries, but Banbury were unable to take advantage until the dying moments when they mauled the ball over the line after a quick tap penalty.

There was no time for a restart, leaving OLs winners.
