RACING Club Warwick’s inconsistent form in the Midland League Division One continued after they lost 3-2 at home to Atherstone on Saturday.
The Racers started brightly with a Malley flick-on allowing McKenzie to fire over and a Dusabe jinking run put Mckenzie through one-on-one but the keeper did well to block his effort.
On 39 minutes Reynolds intercepted play and Fed Mckenzie whose cross was fired over by Bennett from 12 yards.
Warner then had a long range effort just wide on 41 minutes as did Mckenzie two minutes later as the teams went in goalless at the break.
Racing did eventually manage to take the lead on 48 minutes when Mckenzie crossed for Malley whose shot was blocked and Bennett followed up to fire home the rebound.
A Dusabe cross saw Malley head wide before Dusabe fired a curling effort wide.
Atherstone must of been grateful to be just one goal down when against the run of play a mistake in the middle from Racing allowed the forward to smartly round Racers keeper Dowling to equalise.
Racing responded and a fantastic ball from debutant Astley fed Morton but his long range effort was saved by the keeper. Atherstone then went 2-1 up on 70 minutes thanks to a fantastic headed goal and Dowling produced a fine save to keep Racing in the game.
That save looked invaluable when Racing forced home the ball after the keeper fumbled and Morton almost wrapped up the points for the Racers with a swivelled shot which was saved by the keeper.
But disaster struck right at the end when Atherstone broke away and hit the winner with a similar goal to their first to claim all three points.
