CLAVERDON picked up just their second Midlands Four West (South) victory of 2018 with a 33-20 home win over Burbage.
The first 20 minutes was all Burbage as Claverdon could not get a hold of the ball.
And the visitors drew first blood with a kick right in front of the sticks to take a 3-0 lead.
But the hosts settled and at the 30-minute mark they won a penalty and kicked for the corner, with the resulting line-out won and the maul set up.
Charlie Byrd broke and made a dart for the line only to be stopped, but the ball was shipped to James Williams who scored next to the posts for a converted try as Claverdon took a 7-3 lead.
And not long after the hosts stretched their lead at half-time to 11 points when James Barton ducked and dived his way past several tackles on his way to the try line.
After the break Burbage notched up another penalty to reduce the arrears but it did not take long for Claverdon to find their feet again with David Shadlock outrunning three defenders to score in the corner.
Williams took the difficult conversion, slotting the ball neatly between the posts to give Claverdon a 21-6 advantage.
Not long later the hosts extended their lead with another quality score.
This time Sam Turrel was next to turn the afterburners on as he darted past two tackles before sidestepping his next marker to score under the posts with the extras added once more.
With only 15 minutes, it looked as though the game was out of reach for Burbage but they continued to fight, scoring under the posts to make it 28-13.
Claverdon responded once more, though, as Jack Johnson scored in the corner.
Williams failed to convert.
Burbage did manage to squeeze in a converted try of their own before full-time as Claverdon ran out comfortable winners.
Claverdon now turn their attentions to Sunday’s Warwickshire Vase semi-final against rivals and Midlands Five West (South) side Atherstone at Old Laurentians (2.15pm KO).
