LEAMINGTON continued their pre-season campaign with a 2-0 victory against a young Coventry City XI.

Goals either side of half time from Cally Stewart and new addition Caine Elliott sealed a comfortable win at the Your Co-op Community Stadium.

Prior to kick-off the two teams and 552 people in attendance paid their respects to 12-year-old Sky Blues fan Keaton Slater who tragically lost his life in a hit and run last month.

A collection took place before and during the game to aid the fundraiser set up in his memory with around £300 raised while his family were invited onto the pitch.

Paul Holleran handed valuable minutes to summer signings Joe Doyle-Charles, Tim Berridge, Elliott and George Ward.

Coventry made a fast start as Theo Streete produced a crucial early block before Mackenzie Stretton dragged a shot wide and Jack James fired an effort over the crossbar.

Stretton then hit the post as Coventry went close to an opener as the ball bounced across the face of goal before Brakes goalkeeper Callum Hawkins pounced on the loose ball.

However, the Brakes broke the deadlock when Doyle-Charles won back possession just inside his own half before a fine move ended with Will Shorrock squaring the ball to Stewart who fired a powerful effort past Luke Bell in the Coventry goal.

The home side had chances to add to their lead before the break as Ewan Williams headed over while Ben Blakely headed against his own crossbar attempting to block Shorrock’s first time strike.

Coventry changed virtually their entire starting XI at the interval with the majority of their second year scholars now on the pitch.

Stewart blazed an effort over the bar before Dan Meredith bulldozed his way into the box and squared the ball to substitute Jack Edwards who saw his shot well blocked.

The Brakes eventually doubled their lead when substitute Jiah Medrano tore down the left and found Berridge who in turn set up Elliott who placed a first time shot into the bottom left corner.

Leamington continue their pre-season campaign against Stratford Town on Saturday, July 20 with kick-off at 3pm at the Arden Garages Stadium.
