PAUL Holleran praised his side’s first-half performance following Leamington’s goalless draw away at King’s Lynn Town.

The Brakes spurned two late chances to steal the points at The Walks with neither side able to break the deadlock.

And the result leaves Leamington ninth in the National League North table, one point outside of the play-off places.

Holleran said: “It was a really good nil-nil. The biggest compliment I can pay our team is that it was a really good National League North game.

“We’ve come here and nicked a point in years gone by and we’ve also taken some good beatings, but we’ve come here and gone toe to toe with them.

“I thought we were excellent in the first half. We created a few really good opportunities, but they were a threat too. There was a similar pattern in the second half – They sped up their game, stretched the pitch more, and we found a way to hang on in there at times. We still looked a threat, that was what pleased me the most, and had two really good chances.

“I think the result was about right on the balance of play. I think when you have two really good chances late on you hope you can go and win it. It was a good, solid, structured performance, and we looked a threat all afternoon.”

Both teams had chances to win the game throughout as Ted Rowe forced King’s Lynn goalkeeper Patrick Boyes to tip his driven shot behind.

And Stewart shot inches past the post later in the first half before the same player had the ball in the net only for the assistant’s flag to stop any celebrations after Boyes’ had the ball knocked out of his hands and onto the crossbar.

After the break, King’s Lynn hit the post as Finlay Barnes crashed a shot against the woodwork with his follow-up effort deflected behind.

Brakes goalkeeper Callum Hawkins then made a flying save to keep out Kyle McFadden’s powerful effort.

And the visitors almost snatched the points at the death only for Boyes to deny Stewart with a fine save low down to his left.

Leamington are next in action against Peterborough Sports on Saturday, November 2 with kick-off at 3pm at the Your Co-Op Community Stadium.
