PAUL Holleran wants an explanation from the referee following Leamington’s 1-1 draw at Warrington Town.

The Brakes took the lead courtesy of Cally Stewart’s goal just before the half-hour mark only for Josh Miles to level the game for the home side after the break at Cantilever Park.

However, Holleran felt his side should have had a free-kick in the lead up to Warrington’s equaliser.

Holleran said: “We did a lot of things right in the game. I think the first 15 minutes of the second half was always going to be important. There were moments in their goal where we could have done better, but there was a big moment out of our control.

“When your centre forward’s going through on goal one-on-one and is sort of clipped, there’s only one person that can explain it because I don’t think anyone else can explain it.

“The goal has come from that phase. I think we thought we were going to get something, and one or two players have emotionally stopped or whatever. It’s a good pass and finish from them to be fair, but it’s a big moment, and for the life of me I can’t understand how any official at any level can not see that. I don’t quite get that one.

“I think it’s our best away performance this season, we got in good areas, had some good chances in the last 15 minutes. There’s an air of disappointment because I’m disappointed with the manner of their goal.

“I’m really pleased with the performance, the levels. Probably on the chances we’ve created and the positions we’ve got into we deserved the three points, but there wasn’t a lot in it if I’m being honest.

“We’ll regroup and sort one or two of these injuries out. We’ve got 10 days’ rest now which will be good, and we’ll get ready for the FA Cup.”

The Brakes took the lead on 27 minutes when Stewart shifted the ball onto his right foot before finding the bottom corner after Warrington failed to properly clear their lines.

However, the home side drew level on 47 minutes as Miles swept the ball into the net from Matty McDonald’s pass although Brakes boss Holleran felt the officials missed a foul on Stewart in the build up to the goal.

Leamington are next in action against Carlton Town in the FA Cup on Saturday, September 14 with kick-off at 3pm at the Your Co-Op Community Stadium.
