OWEN Farmer scored a hat-trick as Leamington made the perfect start to pre-season with a dominant 5-1 victory against Lye Town.

Farmer struck twice before the break and later completed the scoring from the penalty spot while Kyle Finn and Nat Kelly also found the net for Scott Easterlow’s side.

The game took place at Southam United’s Bobby Hancocks Park ground as Brakes boss Easterlow named six of his new signings in the Leamington side along with three trialists.

However, the club’s only remaining player from the previous campaign put Leamington ahead as Farmer forced a shot past the goalkeeper on the half-hour mark.

And Farmer struck again two minutes before half time as the striker slammed a first time shot into the net following a low ball into the box from the right.

Debutant Finn added a third goal on the stroke of half time with the Lye goalkeeper only able to parry Dexter Walters’ initial effort into the scorer’s path.

Lye reduced the deficit on 61 minutes as Dan Tozer finished into an empty net after Brakes goalkeeper Jacob Humphries failed to claim a cross.

Leamington restored their three-goal cushion on 73 minutes when Kelly rose highest to head in a trialist’s corner from the right at the near post.

And Farmer completed his hat-trick four minutes later from the spot with an effort down the middle of the goal from 12-yards after a trialist drew a foul in the box.
