FOOTBALL - Racers put Worcester to the sword in ruthless display

Leamington Editorial 21st Mar, 2023   0

RACING Club Warwick returned to winning ways with a 4-1 win against lowly Worcester City to maintain their promotion push.

Goals from Callum Rudd, Kory Burke, Archie Hamp and Connor Mort sealed a comfortable victory at Townsend Meadow.

The result means Warwick move third in the Midland Football League Premier Division table, two points behind Darlaston Town who have two games in hand.

And the Racers made a fast start as Rudd headed in Mort’s cross at the far post after just seven minutes following good play from Jay Dilonga.

Rudd almost scored his second of the game minutes later as he hit the post with the aid of a slight deflection from Cam Ebbutt’s free-kick.

However, Burke headed in unmarked at the far post from the resulting corner to put Warwick two goals to the good.

Worcester reduced the deficit on 41 minutes when Kyonn Evans fired home only for Hamp to head into the roof of the net on the stroke of half time to restore Racing’s two-goal cushion after Mort headed Rudd’s long throw back across goal.

And Racing sealed the points in the second half when Mort headed home James Hancocks’s deep cross on 72 minutes after the latter combined well with Ebbutt.

Racing’s two remaining home games will be free entry to all as Warwick entertain fellow promotion hopefuls Walsall Wood on Monday, April 10 and Highgate United on Saturday, April 22.

Warwick are next in action away at AFC Wulfrunians on Saturday, March 25 with kick-off at 3pm at Castlecroft Stadium.
