MARK Draper produced a sparkling display at the weekend to lift the coveted Phelps Bowl at Kenilworth Golf Club.
Draper opened the 36-hole competition with an accomplished 87, nett 70, in difficult conditions on Saturday and followed up 24 hours later by carding an amazing 78, nett 61, to finish with an 11 under par nett score of 131 which left him five shots clear of the field.
Simon Harborne finished runner-up with 86, nett 71, and 80, nett 65, for a two round nett total of 136.
Brendan Fenerty took the Division A honours, and the best gross prize, on Saturday with 74, nett 69, from Roger Jones 79, nett 70, while Ian Griffiths 92, nett 70, topped Division B from Wal McArdle 91, nett 70.
Hywel Green 80, nett 66, was the Division A winner on Sunday from Mark Gardner 81, nett 70, while Draper added to his prize haul by claiming success in Division B from Harborne.
Tom Higgitt carded the best gross score of 73 on Sunday and also won the overall gross prize with 149.
Previously, there was some exceptional scoring in the President’s Cup which was generously hosted by Ann Saywell.
Countback was required to determine the winner with Stephen Faulconbridge and Ward Woodhead edging out David Meehan and Malcolm Young plus David Machin and David Turrall after all three pairs amassed 47 points.
Nearest the pin winners were Sam O’Sullivan (2nd), Dave Machin (10th) and Geoff Owen (18th).
The August Extra Medal was won by Nick Coleman with 40 points from Richard Moon 36, while Leslie Tibbitts triumphed in Division B with 40 points from Stephen Linford 39.
