ROYAL Leamington Spa CC hosted their first official road race at the weekend, which attracted riders from all over the country.

At 9.30am on Sunday, a field of more than 70 cyclists took on the five-mile, seven-lap course which started near Wellesbourne Village Hall.

The lap took the riders along Kineton Road and up Friz Hill, along Fosse Way and then down through Moreton Paddocks before turning back on to the Kineton Road.

Samuel Huck (High Wycombe CC) was the winner, completing the course in one hour and 32 minutes, averaging close to 25mph.

David Roper (Ride 24/7 CC) and Jack Mundinano (Cheltenham and County CC) were second and third respectively.

Roper was also the overall winner of the King Of the Mountains (KOM) challenge.

Elsewhere, RLSCC rider Jason McNulty finished third in the first round of the West Midlands Cyclo-Cross League in Redditch.
