Hat-trick of wins for Cleary’s

Leamington Editorial 25th Oct, 2018   0

THREE Leamington novices representing Warwickshire at Newdigate in Coventry all claimed unanimous decision victories.

First up was 13-year-old Harvey Calder (Cleary’s) who took on Reece Hall (Pleck ABC) in his opening bout.

Calder dominated from the start, using jabs and combination punches to take control.

Next up was Aman Kumar (Cleary’s) who took on Lewis Warley (2nd City ABC) in what was his third fight and managed to claim the win.

Cleary’s third man up was Gary Mandizha who was pitted against Coventry Boys ABC’s Karifala Dore.

Mandizha won to secure the clean sweep for Cleary’s.

Head coach Edwin Cleary said: “Harvey’s a real star in the making and with one of the best debuts I’ve seen. This lad could go all the way.

“Aman is another one to watch and also a tip for the top.

“Both of them are real gems who train hard every day and have travelled the length and breadth of the country for sparring over the last few months.

“I am predicting a bright future for these two young men.

“Gary was critical of his own performance, believing he could have done better.

“However, the timing of his jab against a taller opponent and his head movement was a big step in the right direction.

“He’s making some great strides now and with a bit of experience he will box for championships.”
