Henley Tennis Club open day deemed a huge success

OVER 70 people enjoyed free tennis lessons and games when Henley Tennis Club held its annual open day earlier this month.

People of all ages and abilities were given a chance to try the sport with a series of fun and  games taking place throughout the day on April 9.

Older juniors were able to benefit from tips and guidance from a qualified coach while younger players enjoyed mint tennis games, which is an exciting promgramme launched by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).

Ten young players also signed up for a brand new group as part of the Davis Cup Legacy, which means they will benefit from a free six week coaching programme as well as receiving a free tennis racket.

A record number of adults joined in the Tennis Xpress session to learn the basics and their new skills were put to the test with a match taking place at the end of the session.

And having dodged the April showers following light refreshments, lots of people still had some energy left to enjoy a fun session of Cardio Tennis for both the children and parents.

As a follow up to the open day, Henley will be celebrating the Great British Tennis Weekend on May 15 where there will be more free sessions and a new Tennis Xpress course will take place on Wednesdays (9.30-10.30am) aimed at beginners.

The club season starts in earnest on May 12 with an evening mixed tournament taking place. All Members are welcome and refreshments will be provided. For further details about the club or any of the sessions contact Neil Supperstone on 07912 664426 or e-mail [email protected].
