WARWICK Hockey Club’s men’s third team suffered a 3-1 defeat to Rugby 4ths in their first game of the season
Several new players were turning out for Warwick’s third team for the first time and started strongly with good distribution in midfield.
And they were rewarded when a fine solo goal handed them the lead as a Warwick player finished from a tight angle when one-on-one.
However, Rugby drew level from a scrappy short corner before scoring from a similar set-piece shortly after to turn the game in their favour before the break.
Warwick failed to capitalise on some superb crosses as they struggled to find a way through a resolute Rugby defence before the visitors scored their third goal on a rare breakaway
Elsewhere, the men’s first team beat Worcester 3-1, the second team lost 4-1 to Beacon, the fourth team beat Long Buckby 2-1 and the fifth team drew 2-2 with Atherstone Adders.
The women’s first team thrashed Old Silhillians 6-2, the second team lost 3-2 to Redditch, the third team were beaten 3-2 by Old Silhillians 2nds and the fourth team lost 5-0 to Old Silhillians 3rds.
