Holleran says Leamington were 'soft touch' against Peterborough

PAUL Holleran felt Leamington were “a soft touch” as they suffered a hugely disappointing 2-0 defeat to Peterborough Sports.

The Brakes boss had no complaints over the result as the well-drilled visitors enjoyed a deserved win on their first visit to the Your Co-op Community Stadium.

Josh McCammon scored the opening goal just before half-time and his deflection from Dan Jarvis’ shot sent the ball beyond wrong-footed keeper Callum Hawkins.

At the other end, lacklustre Leamington struggled to test visitors keeper Peter Crook. Rackeem Reid fired over, Dan Turner had a shot blocked and debutant substitute Liam Cross, who has joined on a one-month loan from Northampton Town, drilled just past the post.

“The bottom line is, from an attacking point of view we’ve not been good enough,” said Holleran.

“We haven’t got our shots off well enough, we haven’t been good enough in the final third; the ball hasn’t stuck enough; and when we have put three or four superb balls in the box we aren’t anticipating, reacting. It was a disappointing, frustrating day.”

Holleran told the Brakes website: “Being bluntly honest there are too many players today, that have been five or six out of ten, and our know-how and game management would probably be less than that, and that’s disappointing, because you’re coming to a stage of the season now, coming into December, where there’s going to be a lot of games like this.

“I think we looked a bit of a soft touch; fragile. We got involved in things we didn’t need to get involved in, whereas they’ve just come and done a job. It was a good away performance from them and a disappointing home one from us.”

Leamington will entertain Brackley Town on Tuesday (7.45).

Cross, aged 18, has joined for a month from League Two Northampton, to cover for injuries to Ben Usher-Shipway and Joe Clarke.
