HOCKEY: THE STARS of the future at Leamington Hockey Club were paid a visit by one of the stars of today when one of Team GB’s gold medal-winning heroes came to town.
Lily Owsley was part of the history-making hockey champions in Rio last summer, and brought her medal with her for a visit to Leamington’s junior academy.
But it wasn’t just a flying visit, the Olympian got stuck into playing games with Leamington’s young players, showed off some skills, posed for photos and signed sticks, bags, balls and even an umpire’s yellow card.
She also passed on three top tips for success to Leamington’s players – be resilient, believe in yourself and never stop running when playing a game – leaving Leamington’s players suitably inspired.
Lisa Dodd-Mayne, Leamington Hockey CLub’s Junior Section Chair, was thrilled with the visit, she said: “What a star Lily Oswley was.
“Everyone had a great time and nothing was too much trouble – a true superstar. She was so impressed with how we run the academy and so impressed with the skills some of our players have.”
