Kenilworth Ladies shortlisted for National Rugby Award

Craig Gibbons 24th Aug, 2018

KENILWORTH Ladies have been recognised for their recent successes by being shortlisted for the Women’s Team of the Year Award at the National Rugby Awards.

The ceremony will take place at Twickenham Stadium next week Wednesday.

Following their formation in 2015, the last three years have seen the side go from strength-to-strength.

Having been granted league status for the 2016/17 season, the side earned back-to-back promotions and will compete in the Women’s Championship Midlands Two division during the upcoming season.

However, their greatest success to date came back in April when they reached the final of the Intermediate Cup.

This national competition saw the Ladies overcome higher-ranked sides on their way to final against Supermarine Ladies at Cheshunt RFC.

The National Rugby Awards were first held in 2015 and are a celebration of grassroots rugby.

Other awards to be announced at the ceremony include Men’s Team of the Year, Rugby Coach of the Year, Men’s Player of the Year and Women’s Player of the Year. Kenilworth have been shortlisted for Women’s Team of the Year alongside Yeovil Rugby Ladies, Workington Finches, Anselmians Warriors Women’s Team, Reading Abbey Nuns and West Park Leeds Women’s 1st XV.

Caroline Spence, chairwoman of Kenilworth Ladies, said: “We’re delighted that everything we achieved last season has been recognised on a national scale by being shortlisted for such a prestigious award.

“Our players, coach and committee have worked incredibly hard since we formed three years ago and this nomination is a real testament to our team’s success.”

The Ladies are currently coming towards the end of their pre-season training programme as they look ahead to the 2018/19 campaign which kicks off at home against West Bridgford on Sunday, September 9.
