TENNIS: KENILWORTH Ladies Veterans’ team are celebrating after winning a prestigious county award.

The squad received the ‘Club Team of the Year’ trophy at the annual Warwickshire Lawn Tennis Association Awards ceremony held at Villa Park in Birmingham.

Under the captaincy of Kay Gebbels, the over-40s team, who are based at Crackley Lane, has won the County Veterans’ League championship six times.

In three of those seasons they were unbeaten and two of the titles were decided in the final match. The team has also been runner-up three times.

Three of the Kenilworth ladies have been members since they were juniors and four now represent the county at over-50s and 60s level.

Gebbels said: “Over the decade we have enjoyed so many close matches and are delighted to receive this award which recognises the success of a longstanding core group of players.”
