BOXER Danny Quatermaine proved once again why he has been tipped to have a bright future in the ring after breezing past his latest contender for a shot at the English title.
The Clearys ABC fighter comfortably beat Henri Potter (Kingfisher ABC) on Saturday night in what was a commanding performance from start to finish.
Quatermaine impressed in front of the English selectors and will now face the English champion on February 26 at a venue most likely to be in London.
“Danny dominated from the off and it seemed as though he was always one step ahead and so much stronger,” said trainer Edwin Cleary.
“He even had time to show boat, which is uncharacteristic of Quatermaine but in front of the England selectors he wanted to impress.”
Next up for Danny is a fight against the number two ranked fighter in England and ABA runner up Jack Wood at the assembly February 6.
Elsewhere, CYP Youth Heavyweight Champion Lewis Williams will box three times in as many days in a bid to become the new Youth Champion next month.
The heavyweight is another hot prospect from Clearys ABC and like Quatermaine, trainer Edwin has high hopes for the teenager.
“I’m a big fan of both Lewis and Danny and would ask for local firms and businesses to come forwards and help theses two lads with sponsorship.
“Both lads train seven days a week sometimes twice a day. They go through gloves every three months so if there’s anyone willing to help please contact me.
Clearys’ next show takes place on February 6 at Leamington’s Assembly Rooms where several central England Championship belts will be decided.
