THERE was to be no fairytale ending to Jade Yeomans’ journey in the National Novice Championship after she lost to Jem Campbell in Sunday’s 69kg final.

The Leamington boxer had beaten Kate King and Bree Burberry to progress through to her first ever novice final.

But the 25-year-old fell to her first defeat in Bethnal Green where she lost after what was a disappointing performance, however coach Oliver O’Neill said she can be proud of her achievement.

“Jade is obviously very disappointed at the moment but she has done superbly to get to the final after only four belts,” said O’Neill.

“She was gutted because her opponent was there for the beating, but she’ll bounce back and this has been a fantastic experience for her.”

Elsewhere, Danny Quatermaine travelled up to Sheffield at the weekend to take part in the latest England senior elite talent day.

Quatermaine came up against some of the best boxers in England and he did well in all of the fitness tests and sparring.

The visit to the Sheffield Institute of Sport will boost Quatermaine’s confidence ahead of next year’s Elite ABA Championships in March.

Quatermaine will also be in action at Clearys Boxings’ next show on December 5 where he will be challenging for the a senior Elite Central England belt.
