FOUR pupils from Leamington-based Campion School came away from the Warwickshire Megafinals Chess Championship with honours.

Year 13 student Emilia O’Reilly was announced as the Under-18 Warwickshire Girls Champion on May 8 and Year 11 pupil Kristens Taurins was crowned the Under-16 Warwickshire Boys Champion.

Both Tinashe Gutu and Craig Sparkes also qualified for the Gigafinals in Manchester in the summer.

The team meets every Thursday lunchtime and Wednesday after school and it has grown to over 20 members in the last year.

They also play regularly against other schools such as Warwick Preparatory School, Bablake and King Henry VIII. The Campion team came second in the division two league in April.
