HOCKEY: LEAMINGTON ladies will head into the winter break high in confidence after signing off with a convincing 4-1 victory over Leicester on Saturday.

Goals from Kerry Luckett, Sarah Gambling and a brace from Dani Black secured the win, which leaves Leamington in second place in the league, just one point behind the leaders and they resume their push for promotion on February 4.

Also extending their quest for glory is the ladies’ masters side, who progressed to the fourth round of the Investec Trophy with a 3-1 win over Stourport.

Two goals from Jeanette Lloyd and a strike from Sarah Gambling put Leamington into the next round, as they bid to go one better than last season, when they reached the semi finals.

Elsewhere in the women’s section, it was almost a perfect weekend with the second team sweeping aside Atherstone in a 4-1 victory, thanks to a brace from Jeanette Lloyd and a goal apiece from Laura O’Neill and Kirby Harris.

The third were also victorious after beating Birmingham Wasps 6-2, but sadly the fourth team slipped to a 2-1 defeat away to the University of Warwick.

In the men’s section, the first team’s struggles continue after they lost 3-1 away to Kings Heath Pickwick, which leaves them second from bottom in the West Midlands Premier Division.

There was better news however for the second team who beat Nottingham Players 1-0.
