HOCKEY: LEAMINGTON got their new year off to the perfect start after recording their first away victory of the season at Ludlow on Saturday.
Goals from Saleem Zuberi, Shaun Cuthill, Chris Meeson and a brace from James Taylor secured a 5-2 win giving Leamington their first points of the campaign.
Despite staying bottom of the West Midlands Premier division, three much-needed points moves Leamington to within one point of Kings Heath Pickwick.
Elsewhere in the men’s section, it was not quite such a good return to action for the second team who lost 7-1 at home to Nottingham, while the third team also conceded seven as they lost 7-4 to Wolverhampton.
The women’s first team were not in action as they continue with their mid-season winter break although the fourth team were due to place Coventry & North Warwickshire but the game was called off because of a frozen pitch.
The second team were able to make it two wins from two in 2017 after comfortably dispatching Stratford 4-1 at home, while the third team also tasted success as they triumphed 2-0 over Berkswell & Balsall Common.
