HEAVYWEIGHT prospect Lewis Williams got tips of his idol and current IBF World Heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua on his first assessment weekend with the Great Britain setup.
The 18-year-old, who trains at Leamington-based Clearys ABC, attended the assessment weekend in Sheffield and got to meet Joshua who was also in sparring.
Williams got to train alongside his idol in the gym while also being put through his paces during intense sessions across three days.
The assessment helped Williams learn more about the nutritional side of the sport and it also included work on analysing fights and sparring.
“There’s no stone unturned,” said Williams’ coach Edwin Cleary. “The assessment went really well he’s been working with all the coaches and getting some great feedback.
“All this will be great preparation for the World Youth Championships in November. Lewis is really looking forwards to the Championships and he’s buzzing with what he’s been doing and got planned for him in his final camp in Northern Ireland at the end of the month.
“One of the good things Lewis is doing now is all this great info he’s getting on training techniques, nutrition, stretching, and even how to wrap your hands correctly. He’s bringing this to our gym which I’m sure will help with the rest of our squad.”
Fellow Clearys boxer Morgan Ansell also got a taste of the international setup after attending another England training camp for female boxers.
The young Leamington fighter looks set to make her England debut early next year.
