THE MANCHESTER Storm jinx continues for Coventry Blaze after they lost out to the Elite League new-boys once again at the Altrincham Ice Arena on Sunday.

Goaltender Brian Stewart made 48 saves as he brilliantly backstopped Blaze to a 2-0 victory over Sheffield Steelers at the Skydome on Sunday.

But Chuck Weber’s side were again unable to solve Manchester Storm as they fell to a 2-1 defeat.

Vinny Scarsella got the go-ahead goal in the 18th minutes before Matt Caria was ejected for slashing shortly before the half-hour mark.

Matt Sisca doubled their advantage 42 seconds into the final session before Neil Trimm pulled a goal back on the powerplay seven minutes from time.

Blaze were bidding for their first four-point weekend this season and called a time-out, pulling goaltender Brian Stewart but they were unable to find an equaliser and slipped to a fifth successive defeat to Storm this season.

“I told the boys in games like this you don’t want to run out of time and that is what happened,” said Weber. “We were pushing and pushing and the clock ran out.

“It is frustrating. We had a game-plan but we were not focused to the level necessary to win a hockey game.

“We tried to get the cute and pretty goals. I told them it isn’t the pretty ones which will win us the game it is the gritty ones.

“We had the opportunity to finally get out of 10th place and we let is slip through our grasp. It is disappointing but we have to regroup and get ready for Cardiff next weekend.”
