New personal best times for Stooks and Hinton in Brighton

LONG-standing members of Spa Striders and experienced marathon runners Tim Stooks and Clare Hinton ran exceptional marathons down in Brighton on Sunday with both recording new personal bests.

Conditions were favourable for all runers to fulfill theor potential with Tim running a superb 3:10.47 while Clare crossed the finish line in 3:16.51.

There were also impressive performances from Elena Savelieva (4:02.23), Catherine Shephard (4:15.06) and Dave Lithgow (4:31.28) who were all making their marathon debuts.

Elsewhere at the Regency 10km event on Sunday, which was organised by Leamington’s Round Table, a handful of Spa Striders were in action with Nick Varey leading the team home in 41 minutes and 47 seconds.




There were also strong performances from Mike Wilkes (42.16), Kate Gadsby (43.08), Gethyn Friswell (44.31), Jennie Hawkins (45.18), Nadine Lee (46.28), Luke Hillson (47.53 PB), Chris Jones (49.19), Lorraine Parsons (50.59, PB), Millie Coutts (51.10), Suzi Graham (52.12).

There were some excellent performances from over 50 Kenilworth Runners at the event too, with Sarah Rose finishing as the fastest lady in a time of 38 minutes and one second.


Laura Pettifer also produced a fantastic run to finish as the sixth fastest lady in a personal best time of 42.32. Louise Andrews was the 12th lady to cross the finish line in 43.17 while Pauline Dable was first in the LV65 category.

The Kenilworth men were also in fine form with three finishing inside the top ten positions. Peter Hawkins was fifth after crossing the finish line in 35:27, Steve Marr (35.43) was seventh and Stanley Doxey’s time of 36.10 was enough to secure eighth.

There were also new personal best times for Gary Craine, Chris Lyons, Ian Baynes, Rachel King, Laura Gould and Samantha Moffatt. The race was won by Richard Simkiss of McCarkiss Endurance Project in 33.08.
