BOXING: NICK Leahy enhanced his growing reputation in the capital once again after beating Croydon’s Sammy Norzad in what was one of the fights of the show with some of London’s top clubs.

The Fitzpatricks boxer returned to London for the fourth time on Saturday and came away winner thanks to a unanimous decision.

Leahy’s preparations for the fight were far from ideal but coach Derek Fitzpatrick believes the experience will continue to help his progress.

He said: “This was a performance that saw a notable change in Nick,” said his coach Derek Fitzpatrick.

“His preparation for this bout has been disrupted due to our gym moving to a bigger and better facility.

“We have been helped out massively by Leamington Boxing Club and ollie O’neill for allowing us to use their gym, but that was not enough to distract a ever increasingly mature Leahy.

“Nick is piecing together the pieces of the jigsaw and is being moved along quite quickly, facing an opponent with twice as much experience. We are proud of his progress.

“These are exciting times at Fitzpatricks Boxing Gym, with good bouts, good wins, a new home, new boxers and new coaches all contributing to a rapidly growing club.”

There was frustration for younger brother Sean Leahy who saw his opponent pull out of a bout through injury just days before the scheduled fight.
