No luck for Bears at finals weekend in Worcester

WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL: WARWICKSHIRE Bears suffered a heavy defeat in their Division Three semi-final clash against eventual champions CSWC Panthers in Worcester.

From the opening tip-off, Bears were in trouble against a fast and talented Panthers side who were able to cut through a weakened Bears team.

Throughout the game, Bears fought valiantly to try and stay within touching distance but were unable to against the eventual champions.

Elsewhere in the Division One Bronze Medal game, Wakefield Whirlwinds defeated Bears 2nds by just two points.

In a game that saw both sides exchange the lead throughout, it was the Whirlwinds who took the decisive lead at the end of the last quarter – and they were able to hold on from there to secure the win.

After the final, coach Masterson said: “It has been a disappointing end to such a marvellous season.

“I’m still immensely proud of how well the team has done all season.

“This weekend has hopefully shown that we need to start the hard work straight away to get ready for next season and the second division.”

The Bears will still be holding training sessions over the summer and looking to recruit new players for next season’s games in Divisions One and Two, plus the Women’s League Division Two.
