OLD Leamingtonians got back on the winning trail in Midlands Three West (South) with a narrow 24-23 victory at hosts Shipston-on-Stour.
Shipston took the lead after six minutes through an uncovered try but OLs hit back through Calum Semple.
Harry Reynolds kicked the extras to put the visitors 7-5 ahead.
However, the lead was short-lived as an infringement allowed Shipston to score from a penalty.
Once again OLs stormed back with Semple crossing the whitewash.
Reynolds’ conversion made it 14-8.
The end-to-end first period continued with Shipston bundling over two more unconverted tries to take a four-point lead at half-time.
Semple completed his hat-trick not long into the second half but his try went unconverted.
Soon after Semple crashed over once again to put OLs 24-18 ahead going into the final ten minutes.
Full back Oscar Heath and centre Ciaran O’Connor relieved some pressure off the OLs defence but Shipston eventually crossed the line in stoppage time to pull the hosts to within a point.
The conversion was missed, allowing OLs to snatch victory by the slenderest of margins.
OLs entertain Stoke Old Boys on Saturday.
