Old Leamingtonians Colts go marching on

Leamington Editorial 16th Nov, 2018   0

OLD Leamingtonians extended their unbeaten run in the Warwickshire Colts League with a 19-0 victory over visiting Nuneaton.

Nuneaton were quickly out of the blocks and threatened to open the scoring in the first ten minutes.

However, it was OLs who scored first when a poor drop-out from the Nuneaton fly half allowed Alex Evans to scoop up the loose ball and sprint 20 yards before passing the ball to the backs who swept the move left for Alrick Haynes to scamper over in the corner.

Will Davies converted.

Nuneaton still looked dangerous and OLs were soon down to 14 men after Jake Pettifer was binned for a dump tackle on the Nuneaton second row.

OLs quickly reorganised and a strike against the head provided quick ball for Evans to complete a fine solo try after beating several Nuneaton defenders.

The half ended with a superb try-saving tackle from Dylan Collinson to prevent Nuneaton from gaining a foothold in the game.

In the second half the weather deteriorated along with discipline of both sides.

Max McCrickard and the Nuneaton scrum half were both binned early on for handbags off the ball.

Once again the quick-thinking OLs coaches reorganised the back line to cover the loss.

The game remained fairly even for long periods, with several breaks in play for stern words from the referee who handled the fracas in exemplary manner.

With ten minutes remaining OLs put the game to bed with an excellent try from Archie Semple, who collected a little chip over the defence from McCrickard.

Davies slotted the conversion to complete the scoring.
