Old Leamingtonians in 13-try romp over Upton-on-Severn

RUGBY UNION: AN EMPHATIC performance saw Old Leamingtonians score no fewer than 13 tries and ten conversions as they thumped Upton-on-Severn 85-0 in the Midlands 3 West (South) league, report provided by Denis Fisher.

Prior to the kick off the teams and the Berictoe Road observed a minute’s silence in memory of two Old Leamingtonian stalwarts, Andy Eadon and Alan Newton.

The game was only two minutes old when the scene was set as captain Bradley James gathered a loose ball in his own half of the field and with a swerving run, avoiding tackle after tackle, scored the first try of the match which went unconverted.

Within minutes he had scored a second try, this time beneath the posts, which was converted for 12-0 after only five minutes play.

The game levelled out for the next 15 minutes with Upton having some good possession but too often losing the ball through a combination of good OLs defensive tackling and a tendency to give away the ball through loose passing.

After 20 minutes the cascade of OLs tries began with strong running winger Liam Wellings scoring a hat trick and Bradley James also scored three himself.

There were further contributions from Sam Brittan (2), Henry Reynolds, Tom Eales, Paul Salvin, Tom Heslop and Ciaran O’Connor, while Bradley James kicked ten conversions as OLs reach 85.

This win bring OLs back into fourth place in the table ahead of this weekend’s trip to Bedworth.
