OLD Leamingtonians Ladies suffered a disappointing 36-17 defeat on home soil to Women’s Championship Midlands Two high-fliers Buckingham Swans on Sunday.

Swans kicked off to start the game, with OLs receiving the ball and going on a formidable attack.

Catching the visitors off guard, the hosts got the ball out to winger Harriet Hillson who easily evaded the defence bringing in the first points of the game.

Receiving the ball from the Swans kick, OLs continued the try scoring momentum getting the ball out to Hillson again who brought in another try by the 12th minute of the match.

The visitors eventually woke up and managed to bring it back, scoring two tries before the end of the first half with one successful conversion.

The half time score stood at 12-10 to Swans.

There was another strong start from OLs in the second half with a solid defence and a dangerous attack.

The continuous drive from OLs gave captain Jen Vermeulen the break she needed to bring in another try with Vermeulen successfully converting as the hosts took a 17-12 lead.

A hard-fought 30 minutes of both sides putting in some outstanding plays of rugby but OLs lost their rhythm for a bit which allowed Swans to edge into the lead with three tries.

OLs continued to push but it just wasn’t enough as Swans secured a league double.

Next up for OLs is a trip to Lichfield Ladies Seconds on March 11.
