RUGBY UNION: OLD Leamingtonians’ Under-18s maintained their second place position in the Warwickshire Colts South Division with a comfortable 54-7 victory over plucky Chipping Norton.

Fresh from a pre-match handling training session with a specialist coach from Bath University, OLs backs looked dangerous throughout however the first try on ten minutes came through a more direct route.

Jordi Pocknell finished off a good spell of pressure from short range and Alex Witchell converted the first of four successful attempts.

Chippy defended resolutely but were unable to relieve the pressure and good hands allowed Nick Sapsford to score on the right-hand side and further forward pressure, saw Sapsford score by the posts on the stroke of half-time.

Chippy had arrived with a bare 15 and were now short-handed allowing OLs space in the centre. Alex Witchell scored after a flowing move, and then Sapsford completed his hat-trick in some style, with Callum Semple adding the extras.

Captain Sennen Scobie showed considerable pace to notch OLs’ sixth try before the home defence eased off to allow Chippy a deserved consolation try.

There was still time however for Sapsford to score a fourth as Chippy folded and a final Scobie try, the eighth of the match, saw OLs ease to a win by 54-7 win.
