OLYMPIC hero Liam Heath will be the star attraction at this year’s Warwick Canoe Sprint regatta in October as he continued to revel in his gold-winning glory.

Heath won gold in the single kayak across 200 metres in Rio and has confirmed his attendance at the event, which will once again be hosted by Royal Leamington Spa Canoe Club on the river Avon in St Nicholas Park.

Jon Schofield, who won Olympic silver with Liam in the 200m double, will also be at the event on October 8 along with other fellow GB kayakers Rachel Cawthorn and Lani Belcher who recently returned from Rio.

The third annual Warwick Canoe/Kayak Sprint event is set to once again attract hundreds of competitors from a host of clubs around the country.

Highlights of the day include the 200m Sprints in K1/C1 (Single kayak/canoe) and K4 (4 person kayaks) and the K4 races are a top spectator attraction.

There will also be K1 relay races which offer much entertainment for spectators and competitors alike and against the back drop of Warwick castle, there will also be live entertainment including live music and a stand up paddle board demonstration.

“We’re excited to be once again hosting this popular sprint event on the the river and, in particular, welcoming the Olympians who are being so generous with their time and talents,” said Leamington Spa Canoe Club’s head coach, Atilla Herbent

“We would love lots of people to come to St Nicholas Patk on 8th October so they can see for themselves just what this great sport has to offer.”
