SPA Striders were well-represented at the Run for Rotary 10km at Draycote Water on Sunday.

The weather couldn’t have been better for racing on a February morning, still and dry conditions proved perfect and PB times tumbled.

Chris McKeown came thirdrd overall (35:46) recording a new PB by one minute and 20 seconds, showing no signs of fatigue from recent high mileage marathon training.

Paul Edwards was fourtth (36:12), closely followed by Adam Notley in fifthth (36:23) also with a new PB, with Neil Smith finishing sixth (37:27).

Pete Teevan (39:58) had an excellent race, a PB to break 40 minutes for the first time off the back of a 5km PB at Stratford parkrun the day before.

Rob Egan (43:35) was pushed on by female clubmates while Graham Donoghue (44:04), Simon Ludford (44:13) and Doug Rattray (44:19) all celebrated significant PBs, as did Kevin Baskerville (48:05) who was 90 seconds faster than his previous PB, set only one week ago, Neil Webber (50:06) ran his debut 10k race, John Wilson (52:56) finished strongly, and Matt Leydon (56:43) showed he is on the post-injury comeback trail.

Clare Hinton demonstrated determination throughout her race, finishing as first female Strider and second lady overall.

Her time of 42:53 was an excellent sign of her return to form.

Hinton was followed by Melissa Venables (43:37) as third lady, Claire Murphy (44:14) in fourth, Bethan Gwynn (44:33) in sixth and Nadine Lee (44:41) as 7th lady.

Emma Bish (48:52) ran a three-minute PB and took first place in her age category, battling with clubmate Catherine Friggens (49:08).

Claire Westrope and Ruth Tennant crossed the line together in 50:55. Kathleen McCann (56:43) and Kathryn Houliston (1:02:32) both proved the effectiveness of their training programs, with McCann’s half-marathon schedule helping her to an exceptional new 10k PB, knocking 2:30 off her previous best, while Houliston is currently completing the club’s 10 weeks to 10km programme and already recording a new PB.

Meanwhile, on Saturday, Monika Coleman completed the Wildest Peaks Trail Run in icy and wet conditions.

Despite briefly loosing one of her trainers, she completed the 25.6km race in two hours and 51 minutes.

Keith Wilson (1:26:32) completed the Liversedge Half Marathon with a 45-second PB.

At the fifth and final race in the Tempo Events Winter Series in Ilmington, Simon Parsons finished in 41:40 and Lorraine Parsons completed the race in 55:45, both recording their quickest time of the series.

Simon knocked over two minutes off his previous best.

He was tenth male in the overall race series and fourth in his age category while Lorraine was the tenth lady in the series and second in her age category.

The Duathlon Season started at the weekend with the Anglian Water Standard Duathalon.

Helene Wright (2:26:10), finished fifth in her age category, Lucy Tugwell (2:39:21), Amanda Wiggins (2:46:06) placed second in her age category.

Gethyn Friswell completed the Leeds and Bradford Tri club Sprint Duathalon.
