PAULIUS Petrauskas raced his way to a resounding victory in round 17 of the Corley Cycles Summer Series at Milton Keynes Bowl, while Frances Lammyman claimed a podium place in the women’s category race.

The Royal Leamington Spa Cycling Club racer put in an emphatic performance in the men’s category four race, keeping within touching distance of the leading cyclist to initiate a late sprint and win the race within the final ten metres.

After a gradual increase in the pace of the race up to the mid-way point, Petrauskas pushed hard against the headwind to lead a counter attack, where he began to make ground on the leading rider.

He was forced to bide his time going into the final three laps, with other riders catching up, but he was rewarded for conserving his energy after ramping up the pace in the final lap and going for a sprint finish in the final uphill section.

Petrauskas found himself second with metres between him and the leader before the finish line, but left enough time to race home in first place.

Meanwhile, Lammyman added to her confident performance in round 15, where she finished fifth, to secure a podium place in third.

After breaking away from the rest of the group with the leading pack, Lammyman found herself maintaining pace with the more experienced riders alongside her.

Despite being unable to match the other two riders with her sprint finish, she crossed the line in third to further boost her confidence and continue her recent progress.
