RUGBY UNION - Claverdon edged out by Tenbury

CLAVERDON suffered their second defeat in as many matches after they slipped to a narrow 14-10 loss at home to Tenbury.

The hosts took an early three-point lead when James Williams kicked a penalty only for Tenbury to draw level with a penalty of their own.

And after Claverdon failed to make the most of a series of penalties, Tenbury piled on the pressure and ran in their first try before another penalty stretched their lead to 11-3 at the interval.

Despite the hard graft of Claverdon’s prop partnership Ollie Johnson and Marc Spencer, Tenbury added another three points to extend their lead.

However, Claverdon finally scored a try when Williams dotted down and converted his own score after a fantastic driving maul, led by Elliott Saltmarsh and Luca Walker, took them close to the Tenbury line.

The home side had one final chance to snatch the points with a scrum deep in the Tenbury half only for the visitors to turn the ball over and kick into touch to secure the victory.

Claverdon are next in action away at Kenilworth II on Saturday, October 1 with kick-off at 3pm at the Jack Davies Memorial Ground.
