RUGBY UNION - Claverdon return to winning ways against Burbage

CLAVERDON RFC ended their five-game winless run with a dominant 46-14 victory against Burbage.

Claverdon made a strong start and were rewarded when James Williams kicked an early penalty before Alex Grove went over from a well-worked set piece with Williams adding the conversion.

The home side were in complete control and scored the game’s standout try when a lineout in the opposition 22 found Williams who in turn passed to Hilton Garner-Jones out wide who then broke the line and offloaded to Grove who set up George Redwood to dive over in the corner.

Further tries from Josh Evans and Josh Dean saw Claverdon extend their lead  heading into the break, despite Burbage scoring from a driving maul at the other end.

Burbage improved after the break and touched down in the corner before Claverdon scored two terrific open play tries through Charlie Wakelam and Chris Johnson.

Claverdon are next in action away at Woodrush on Saturday, November 5 at Icknield Street.
