RUGBY UNION - Claverdon snap losing run with big Pinley win

JOSH Evans scored a hat-trick of tires as Claverdon RFC snapped their three-game losing run with a bonus point 54-6 win against bottom of the table Pinley.

Evans’s treble was supported by two ties from Charlie Wakelam and further scores from James Kirby, Hilton Garner-Jones and Sam Turrell at Ossetts Hole Lane.

The result means Claverdon remain seventh in the Counties 2 Midlands West (South) table with one fixture left to play.

Claverdon made a quick start as Evans’s early try set the tone for the rest of the game despite Pinley responding with a penalty after some strong carries earned them a kick at goal.

However, the home side scored their second try soon after as Kirby drove over the line and touched down following some powerful carries from the try scorer and James Barton.

Pinley once again reduced the deficit with a penalty but this would prove to be the visitors final score of the game.

Claverdon held firm thereafter and struck again before half time when Wakelam received the ball 30-metres from the Pinley line and shrugged off two tackles to score

The home side were at their free-flowing best in the second half as Evans crossed twice to complete his hat-trick before Garner-Jones and Wakelam touched down to add some gloss to the scoreline.

However, the try of the half belonged to Turrell who scored a magnificent solo effort as he batted away four defenders to score in the corner.

Claverdon finish the season at home to Bromyard on Saturday, March 18 at Ossetts Hole Lane.
