LEAMINGTON C&AC’s Richard Shephard has qualified for the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, on October 11 this year thanks to an impressive performance at the Bolton Ironman UK event on July 20.

The race consisted of a 2.4-mile (3.8km swim), 112-mile (180.25km) bike ride and a marathon 26.2-mile (42.2km) run and Bidford resident Shephard completed the race in 9 hours, 35 minutes to finish 20th out of over 1,600 competitors.

Before he heads to Kona, Shephard will depart to Canada to compete in the 70.3 Ironman World Championships on September 7 in Mont-Tremblant, Quebec.

Shephard’s bike is provided by John Atkins Cycles of Leamington and other sponsors of his journey this year include Pool Care Leisure and SPC Physiotherapy, who wish him the best of luck in both championships.
