HOCKEY: KHALSA hosted relegation battling Loughborough Town on Saturday afternoon as the final month of Midlands Premier Division hockey got underway.

Missing several key players through injury, Khalsa were restricted in their team selection – but were still up for the task at hand.

An early opportunity for Khalsa was converted into a goal when David Harris’ strike led to a penalty corner, which was scored by Aaron Nagra.

Nagra quickly doubled Khalsa’s lead as Loughborough struggled for clear chances on goal as Khalsa’s defence remained strong.

An eight-man move from defence to the goal line added Khalsa’s third as Nagra spread the ball wide to Robinson who switched play to Angliss which allowed Harris to convert a simple tap-in.

Khalsa’s fourth goal came from Amritpal Atawl with a calm and collected finish into the side netting.

Further goals from Harris and Jack Wells earned the home side a convincing 6-0 victory.

Khalsa’s 2nd XI were on the road to face high flyers Beeston.

They started well with great defensive work from Nick Warren and Rev Hayer to keep it level.

However Beeston took the lead through a well worked open play goal – their lead was soon doubled through a short-corner.

Beeston then made it 3-0 when Kiran Kular couldn’t save an initial goalline save from his defender.

Two further goals for Beeston confirmed a dominant victory as Khalsa left Nottinghamshire empty handed.

Khalsa’s 3rd XI started slowly and went a goal down early on against Melton, though they quickly bounced back to earn an impressive win.

Alex Murdoch scored twice to give Khalsa the lead before veteran Raghbir Hayer scored to show youngsters his trick of the trade.

Khalsa started second half where they finished the first and Alex Murdoch completed his fifth hatrick in five games.

Alex Rhys Taylor scored and rounded off a well deserved 5 – 1 win for the home side.
