Spa Striders shine at second Warwickshire Road Race league event

RUNNING: SPA Striders performed well in the second Warwickshire Road Race league event held during the Bank Holiday weekend.

Hosted by Leamington C&AC, the Monty 5km started and finished at Edmondscote track with two laps of Victoria Park.

Charlotte Everard led the Strider Ladies home in the style, finishing in 1st place after a string of second place finishes – with a new personal best of 19mins and 38secs.

She was followed by Mel Venables who also ran a new personal best to finish third in a time of 20mins 3secs.




Carolyn Wilkinson finished 1st in the V45 event in a time of 20mins 27secs.

She was followed home by Laura Peake (20:41), Kate Gadsby (21:10), Bethan Gwynn (21:49), Nadine Lee (22:03) and Helene Wright who ran a new personal best by over 30 seconds (22:27).


Jude Baum set a new V55 club record of 23mins 14secs with Claudine Piper (23:17), Rebecca Lonergan (23:48), and Lucy Marcovitch (24:03) finishing behind.

The Ladies secured 20 points in the WRRL as first team.

Pete Soley led the Strider men home in a new personal best of 17mins 12secs – finishing fifth overall.

He was followed by Paul Edwards (17:35), Adam Notley (17:53), Chris McKeown (18:10), Andrew Bonjour (19:07), Keith Wilson (19:36) and Simon Parsons (19:47) – who was the last runner to finish under 20mins.

The men secured 3rd place in the event.

At the Birmingham 10km, Chris Wilson ran a new personal best in 42mins 30secs – warming up nicely for Stratford Half next weekend.

Mike Mannion also ran a best, his first sub 40mins 10k with a time of 39mins 31secs.

Chris Jones took part in the lightning run, a 12 hour off road endurance event, held in the grounds of Catton Park in Derbyshire from 6am until 6pm.

Lastly, Andi Dunn ran the Thames Path 100 Mile Ultra, completing the course in a well-deserved sub 24-hour target, 23hrs 19mins 51secs.
