Tag rugby festival proves popular with school pupils

A FESTIVAL of tag rugby saw schoolchildren from across the area take part in 52 matches which saw in excess of 430 tries.

Primary schools from Telford, Milverton, Cubbington, Harbury, Our Lady & St Teresa’s, Wellesbourne, Barford, St Margarets and Woodloes took part in the 16th annual Leamington Rugby Club Primary Schools Tag Festival on June 19.

The event was supported by Warwick University Women’s rugby team who provided the nine schools with tag rugby coaching sessions and they also refereed the games on the day.

Coventry-based Aviva Premiership side Wasps also go involved by sending former England ace Paul Sackey along with the European Cup and he also took part in the festivities.




Sackey played in the last game of the day representing Our Lady St Theresa’s school but he was outflanked by an opposition winger from Telford school who scored an easy try in the corner.

Dave Lote, the new CRC for Rugby & District kept score and recorded the points for the most important trophy of the day, the Fair Play Trophy, which was won by Harbury School.
