KENILWORTH finished their pre-season campaign with a convincing 62-17 win over Broadstreet’s Development XV on Saturday in preparation for the start of the new season this weekend.

It was the first match under the watchful eyes of new head coach David Ellis, with a number of players putting in strong performances.

Centre Ed Hannam scored a hat-trick for his side, while powerful back row Mikkel Andresen crossed twice.

Nick Gerber, Josh Emery, Tim Wilson, Cory Joy and Gareth Renowden also added their names to the scoresheet.

The result means the Glasshouse Lane outfit finish pre-season with a 100 per cent record ahead of the Midlands Two West (South) campaign kicking off on Saturday with an away trip to Old Laurentians.

Ellis said: “I was involved in the training and preparation for the friendly game against Broadstreet and what I saw during the game was very interesting.

“It gave me an opportunity to look at the players and see the qualities they’ve got, and also their weaknesses, which will help me greatly to prepare the team for the forthcoming game this weekend.”

meanwhile, Kenilworth Ladies also finished their pre-season fixtures on a high with a 46-12 victory away to Lutterworth.

Winger Phoebe May Howles scored a hat-trick while captain Rebecca Lane touched down twice.

Sophie Henry and Stav Williams also added their names to the scoresheet, with centre Beth Woodward scoring on her return to the side.

The Ladies begin their Women’s Championship Midlands Two campaign on Sunday when Nottinghamshire side West Bridgford travel to Glasshouse Lane.
